Sculpt Your Way to Confidence: Unveiling the Power of Fat Freezing

In the dynamic landscape of aesthetic treatments, one method has captured attention for its transformative results – fat freezing. This non-invasive procedure has become a popular choice for those looking to sculpt and trim their body without going under the knife. We've put together this comprehensive guide to unravel the intricacies of fat freezing so you can understand how it works and why so many people are talking about it.

What is fat freezing and how does it work?

Fat freezing, scientifically known as cryolipolysis, is a revolutionary cosmetic procedure that targets and eliminates unwanted fat cells by exposing them to controlled cooling. The principle behind this technique is based on the fact that fat cells are more susceptible to cold temperatures than surrounding tissues.

Fat freezing works by exposing specific areas of the body to controlled cold temperatures using specialised applicators. This triggers the crystallisation of fat cells, leading to a natural process of cell death (apoptosis). Over time, the body naturally eliminates these crystallised fat cells through the lymphatic drainage system.

On average, each session results in up to a 30% reduction in fat volume.

What's the difference between CoolSculpting and fat freezing?

Fat freezing refers to the process of cryolipolysis while CoolSculpting is a trademarked name for a particular machine that does fat freezing. At Total Body we use the market leading Clatuu Alpha device instead of CoolSculpting as it has newer and advanced technology that freezes cells faster and evenly. It also comes with a greater selection of applicators in all different shapes and sizes, allowing us to treat a broader range of body types and areas.

What parts of the body are commonly treated?

Fat freezing is versatile and effective for treating various types of fat. Common treatment areas include:

  • Abdomen: Targeting belly fat or the infamous "spare tire”.
  • Thighs (Inner and Outer): Addressing fat deposits on the inner or outer thighs.
  • Buttocks: Focusing on localised fat in the buttock region.
  • Flanks (Love Handles): Treating love handles or excess fat on the sides of the torso.
  • Back: Addressing fat on the upper or lower back.
  • Arms: Targeting fat deposits in the upper arms.
  • Chin: Reducing submental fat or the appearance of a double chin.
  • Legs: Addressing fat on the thighs or calves.

    What are the main benefits?

      • Permanent Results: The gradual elimination of fat cells ensures lasting results. Once destroyed, fat cells do not regenerate.
      • Natural-Looking Results: Fat freezing provides a more gradual transformation, avoiding abrupt changes associated with surgical methods.
      • Minimal Downtime: Patients can resume their daily activities immediately after a fat freezing session, making it convenient for those with busy schedules.
      • Improved Confidence: Eliminating unwanted pockets of fat can lead to patients feeling more comfortable, happy and confident in their own bodies.

        Does fat freezing tighten skin?

Some people may notice a modest improvement in skin tightness as a secondary effect of fat reduction but the procedure is not specifically designed for significant skin tightening. If skin laxity is a primary concern check out our body sculpting treatments.

What can I expect in a fat freezing session?

You can expect it to be pretty chill (pun intended). Fat freezing doesn’t require any surgery or scary needles so it’s extremely safe and relatively painless. Here’s what takes place during a typical fat freezing session:

        1. Consultation: Before the actual procedure, you will have a consultation with one of our trained therapists so they can assess your suitability for the treatment, discuss your goals, and explain the procedure in detail.
        2. Preparation: Once you are deemed to be a suitable candidate, the treatment area is marked, and photos may be taken for reference. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing.
        3. Application of Gel Pad: A gel pad or protective membrane will be applied to your skin to protect it from the cold and ensure proper contact with the cooling applicator/s.
        4. Placement of Applicator/sCup shaped applicators will be positioned onto your body and will suction the targeted skin and fat.
        5. Cooling ProcessThe fat freezing machine will begin the cooling process, which freezes the fat cells beneath the skin. The temperature is carefully controlled to induce apoptosis (cell death) in the fat cells without harming the surrounding tissues.
        6. Sensation During Treatment: As the cooling begins, you may feel sensations of pulling, tugging, or intense cold. These sensations usually subside as the treated area becomes numb due to the low temperatures. Most patients describe the pain as mild.
        7. Post-Treatment Care: After the cooling phase, the applicators are removed, and the treated area will be massaged to enhance the breakdown of fat cells. You may experience temporary redness, swelling, or bruising, but these side effects are usually mild and resolve on their own.

        Is fat freezing for everyone?

It's important to note that fat freezing isn't a weight loss solution and is intended to breakdown pockets of fat that don't budge with diet and exercise alone. It works to eliminate subcutaneous fat (the fat just under your skin that you can pinch) and it's not intented for visceral fat which is the dangerous type of fat that lines your organs and can cause diabetes or heart disease. Fat freezing is best suited to those who are close to their target weight and are looking to refine specific areas of their body. It’s also worth noting that people with specific health conditions may not be eligible for treatment. During your consultation one of our qualified therapists will help you determine if fat freezing is suitable for you.
